NEWS - August 2015

The Senior/Super Senior Club Championship will be held on August 15 and 16.  This is the third and last of the annual majors sponsored by the Men's Club.  This is a two day aggregate score tournament played from the white tees and is flighted.  There are two flights (Senior and Super Senior) and all members participating will be assigned to their flight based on their age as of 8/15/15.  The Senior Flight includes members 50 - 59 years old and the Super Senior Flight is for members 60 years old and older.  All members that fall within the age ranges are eligible to participate.  There will be shotgun starts both days.  Saturday pairings will be assigned by flight.  Sunday pairings will be assigned by flight and order of finish on Saturday.  An optional skins game (gross and net skins) will be played for $20.  Junior members (18 - 49) are welcome to play in the skins game on Sunday.

It's been brought to the attention of the Board that during tournament play, members are not doubling up on golf carts.  For instance, there are four members in a group and three golf carts are used.  Recently, the golf course didn't have enough golf carts and they had to wait for our tournament to finish so they can let public play out.  This is unacceptable, wasteful, and not fair to Calimesa Country Club.  If any group/pairing takes an extra golf cart, the group will be required to return it immediately or pay an additional cart fee.

Please remember to write the first and, more importantly, the last name of all members of your group on the scorecard.  If you don't know a member's last name, just ask him on the first hole.  Scorecards that are not complete will be disqualified from the tournament.

Just a reminder, under USGA Rule 26.1, If a ball is found in a water hazard or if it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in the water hazard (whether the ball lies in water or not), the player may under penalty of one stroke:

a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or

b. Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped; or

c. As additional options available only if the ball last crossed the margin of a lateral water hazard, drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole.
