During some tournaments played Hemet Golf Club, there have been questions about water on the course. Is the water temporary that has pooled as a result of rain, sprinklers or drainage? Is the water part of the penalty areas? If there's red or yellow stakes and a ball comes to rest within the stakes, the ball is in the penalty area and a player must proceed under USGA Rule 17.1. If a ball comes to rest in water that is not defined by red or yellow stakes, a player may take relief under USGA Rule 16.1. Sometimes water from the penalty area may spill out of the penalty area and/or connect with temporary water from rain. In these instances, the player and group he's playing with must use their best judgement when determining whether the ball has come to rest in water that is temporary or part of the penalty area defined by red or yellows stakes.
Please be aware that Hemet Golf Club has established environmentally sensitive penalty areas. These areas are defined by green stakes with a red top. No golfers are allowed to enter these areas. When a ball comes to rest in an established environmentally sensitive penalty area, a player must proceed under USGA Rule 17.1 with no option for playing the ball as it lies.
Due to COVID-19 and at the direction of golf courses, the Board had decided to require all flagsticks remain in cups during tournament play. As golf courses have lifted restrictions, the Board has voted on and removed the restrictions on flagsticks. Players now have the option to leave flagsticks in or remove them.
In January 2019, the Board adopted USGA Model Local Rule E-5 as an alternative option to the Stroke-and-Distance procedures under USGA Rule 18.2. To clarify, when proceeding under USGA Model Local Rule E-5 when a ball is hit out of bounds, a ball must be dropped within the fairway nearest to the point where the ball last crossed the edge of the course boundary to go out of bounds and no nearer the hole.
The Bobby (Spoto) Longo Memorial Monument that was located at Calimesa Country Club no longer exists but the Board continues to vote on and honor Members that have passed away.
